Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will held the V AECIMA Meeting on may 13-14, 2016. Dr. Víctor Vega Benítez, coordinator of the Breast Disease Unit of the Universitary Hospital of Las Palmas will be responsible of organizing the Meeting.

Last AECIMA Meeting was held in Salamanca on may 2015 and almost 200 people  took part in the event. The attendees came from countries as Italy, Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the United States. Following the leitmotiv of last editions, the primary goal of the conference was to present the latest surgical techniques and other developments that may improve the quality in the management of breast cancer patients. Some of the hot topics to be discussed in the last edition were the following: breast cancer treatment in young women, management of non-palpable cancer, controversy around prophylactic mastectomies, influence of neoadjuvant therapy on breast cancer surgery or immediate reconstruction in patients with mastectomy and radiation therapy.

Furthermore, Dr. Isabel Rubio, president of the Asociation, launched a mobile app that allows specialists to evaluate the tumoral charge of the auxilliary lymph nodes in Breast Cancer in order to decide if it’s necesary to remove them. The app has been developed by her team at the Breast Disease Unit  at the Vall de Hebron Hospital (Barcelona).

On the other hand, well known international specialist as Dr. Peter G. Cordeiro, plastic surgeon at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York), and  Dr. Oreste Gentilini, surgeon of the European Institute of Oncology (Milan)  took part at the IV AECIMA Meeting.
